The tropEd European Master of Science in International Health is a unique, one-year master programme designed for professionals, wishing to develop their skills in International Health and advance their careers.
Students completing the degree – 60 ECTS in one year – learn to identify and critically analyse key factors shaping global health and the health and well-being of populations in low- and middle-income countries, as well as how to formulate effective and appropriate responses to complex health-related issues.
The Master Course is offered by a Consortium of 7 European and 2 non-European Institutions, each contributing with specific expertise in International Health. Students spend the one year Master Course in two (or three) consortium institutions, which offer an efficient mobility within a one year training period. With the support of Consortium partners, students are able to settle quickly in their new environment and to adapt to the culture of the target countries. The time spent in each institution enables participants to draw on the wealth of diversity represented by Consortium partners.
Student mobility within the tropEd Master Programme is an integral part of the programme objective for providing a truly European learning experience in Higher Education.
All courses are taught in English, excepted in Mexico, where courses are in Spanish. Therefore, an internationally recognised English proficiency certificate is a mandatory admission criterion
Consortium Institutions award joint or double degree to students, as result of the European Master Courses in International Health integrated curricula.
Participating in Erasmus Mundus ensures that Students go abroad and study in at least two different countries.
Participating in Erasmus Mundus enables Students to enroll in an excellent programme in prominent universities that are internationally recognized in particular fields and labelised by the European Commission.
Participating in Erasmus Mundus involves studying in a top level academic environment in terms of knowledge gaining and sharing. International renowned academics have developed up-to-date curricula and fostered innovative teaching approaches. Moreover, private and public organizations in the field of International Health, already linked with Consortium Institutions, have higher confidence in professionals awarded tropEd Erasmus Mundus Master degree.
Participating in Erasmus Mundus also means discovering new cultures, languages, studying and sharing points of view with international masters and doctoral students from all over the world. Participant have the opportunity to meet internationally-renowned teachers from the Consortium Institutions.

Admission & Selection criteria
The minimum admission criteria for the tropEd EMMC are:
European Applicants:
- Any Bachelors degree with honours (240ECTS / 4 years) or equivalent;
- 1 year relevant professional experience in International and Global Health related fields ;
- 2 persons recommendation letters minimum;
- Internationally recognised English proficiency certificate equivalent to TOEFL score of 550/213/79-80 or IELTS score 6.0 – Academic version. (Reference CEEC – Common European Framework of Reference for Languages). No other test will be accepted. Candidates who completed their education in UK and Ireland do not need to take one of the below mentioned English certificates.
Non-European Applicants:
- Any Bachelors degree with honours;
- 2 years relevant professional experience in International and Global Health related fields ;
- 2 persons recommendation letters minimum;
- Internationally recognised English proficiency certificate equivalent to TOEFL score of 550/213/79-80 or IELTS score 6.0. (Reference CEEC – Common European Framework of Reference for Languages). No other test will be accepted. Candidates who completed their education in Canada, USA, UK, Ireland, New Zealand, South Africa, or Australia, do not need to take one of the below mentioned English certificates.

The joint Common selection criteria for students are:
- Excellent first degree with outstanding grades and/or other study results;
- Strongly convincing letter/statement of motivation/statement of intent, including a career plan;
- Excellent recommendations by one academic and one professional referee;
- Well-developed thesis proposal.
How much will it cost?
European Students (2012-2013 Fees): 10,000 Euros
Non-European Students (2012-2013 Fees): 15,000 Euros
Scholarships
Category A Students:
Scholarships can be awarded to masters students selected by EMMC consortia who come from a Third Country (all countries of the world excepted the 27 EU Member States, Iceland, Norway, Liechtenstein, Albania, Bosnia Herzegovina, Croatia, Kosovo under UNSC Resolution 1244/99, Montenegro, Serbia, Turkey and the Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia) and who are not residents nor have carried out their main activity (studies, work, etc …) for more than a total of 12 months over the last five years in one of these countries.
Category B Students:
Scholarships can be awarded to any maters students selected by EMMC consortia and who do not fulfill the Category A criteria defined above.
If you are a non-EU student (Category A):
- Contribution to travel, installation and any other type of costs: € 4000
- Contribution to the EMMC participation costs (including insurance coverage): € 4000 / semester
- Monthly allowance: € 1000 / month
If you are an EU student inside the EU (Category B):
- Contribution to the EMMC participation costs (including insurance coverage): € 2000 / semester
- Monthly allowance: € 500 / month
If you are an EU student carrying studies outside the EU (Category B):
- Contribution to the EMMC participation costs (including insurance coverage): € 2000 / semester
- Monthly allowance: € 500 / month
- + Contribution to travel, installation and any other type of costs: € 3000
Participation costs must be understood as any compulsory administrative/operational cost related to the participation of the student in the EMMC (e.g. library, laboratory, tuition, social security and insurance costs, etc.). Any other costs that may be charged in addition (e.g. for participation in fieldwork activities), being compulsory or voluntary, must be communicated to the candidate student at application stage.
Monthly allowance amounts may be increased in order to cover the additional costs of students with special needs; EMMCs will have to inform the Agency accordingly in the context of their annual student scholarship applications.
